WELCOME TO THE

EUROPEAN DANUBE ACADEMY

SCIENCE

One of the central topics of the EDA is the promotion and qualification of future executives as well as young scientists in the Danube region. The EDA has therefore established a scientific network in cooperation with universities in Ulm and Neu-Ulm and universities in Budapest, Novi Sad (Serbia) and Ruse (Bulgaria), in the framework of which annual “Danube Schools” are held for students and young scientists from the Danube countries. Lecturers are renowned professors from various disciplines and “Danube experts”. The “Danube School Series” serves to promote and qualify young scientists with regard to management competencies – a central topic within the framework of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region. It sees itself as a qualified contribution against the “brain drain”, the still prevailing emigration of young elites from the Southeast European Danube countries.

The European Danube Academy develops and coordinates projects and study programs in cooperation with scientific, cultural, political and civil society institutions in the Danube countries, organizes conferences and issues subject- and topic-related publications. With its network and projects, the EDA contributes to international understanding with the countries of Southeast Europe and thus promotes the European integration process in the Danube region.

As I gaze at the young waters of the freshly sprung Danube, I wonder if, following it to the diverse peoples and ethnic groups all the way to the delta, I will enter an arena of bloody battles or join the chorus of a humanity that is nonetheless unified, regardless of the different languages and cultures.

Claudio Magris, Danube.
