Danube Festival, Danube Office, Danube Swabian Central Museum, Danube Academy … why is everything always in Ulm? Is the Danube in Ulm so special? Yes, indeed. This is because important impetus came from here, which ultimately led to the adoption of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region in 2011. And it is now 10 years old.

Just as Ulm became the gateway to freedom for thousands of people three hundred years ago, Ulm was the starting point for the European Union’s Danube Strategy in 2011.

Why did Ulm in particular advocate strategic networking along the Danube? And what is the current conclusion of European cooperation? We put these questions to two companions from the very beginning of the Danube Region Strategy, Ivo Gönner (retired Lord Mayor) and Peter Langer, who have been working on the Danube for a very long time. 

We discuss what Ulm and Neu-Ulm citizens associate with the Danube and whether the cities of Ulm/Neu-Ulm and the region were and are actually beneficiaries of the river and the associated cooperation with people who fill the Danube Region Strategy with life.

The evening will be culturally framed by the band “Rainer von Vielen”, who will also treat us to their sounds at the next Donaufest 2022 on the banks of the Danube, and the poetry slammer Niklas Ehrentreich, who will put us in the mood for the Danube in a poetic way at the beginning of the event.
